Description
Cream satin jacquard with floral clusters having short sleeve boatneck bodice with pleats, ruffles and self piping, trimmed with cream lace and dotted gauze ribbon, full pleated skirt with bow and streamers from center waist point, detachable long sleeves; matching pellerine having lace collar and ruffled hem. Purchased from Doris Langley Moore. Letter from Doris to Helen, Oct. 25, 1863, "I feel certain that if you don't want the things of Lady Jane Erskine, Mrs. Holt will readily relieve you of them, because they are really first rate. Lady Jane, born 1818, was the daughter of the 11th Earl of Buchan. She married in 1837 and the same year, according to the vendor, was painted for King Ludwig I in Bavaria. She is certainly in that gallery of his favorite beauties in the Nymphenburg Palace, and I only wish that, when I was there, I had known I was going to acquire her wedding dress and may trousseau clothes..." Continues to describe the wedding gown "The dress has long sleeves....detachable when the gown was worn for the first ball". B-32, W-22, L-48. (Some tears to lace, few tiny spots to skirt, small notch in edge of streamer) excellent.
