South/Central Asia, Indus River Valley, Meghargh period, ca. 2600 to 2500 BCE. A delightful and delicate bronze age buff clay effigy figure which displays an elaborate hairstyle and a plethora of flowing jewelry. She also exhibits large and prominent breasts held aloft by diminutive arms, which are indicative of fertility and motherhood. This figure, intended for an elite individual in Meghargh society, would have been a commonplace item in the domiciles of those intending to conceive children, hence the term "mother goddess." Lucite block not included. Size: 1.75" L x 2" W x 5" H (4.4 cm x 5.1 cm x 12.7 cm).
