Description
Nice fertility cult figurine, red hand molded terracotta with applied ornaments. The strict frontal and rigid posture of this is broadly characteristic of a common type of hand molded fertility figures usually distinguished by such stylistic features as applied slit-pellet eyes, flat bodies with diminutive, but prominent breasts, and wide hips, legs indicated by an incised vertical lines and stubby out-spread arms. 100% archaeologically found in ancient Gandharan Valley. Dimensions: 13 cm H. + custom mount. Provenance: Art Indus Earth, 2006 acquired by Dr. Henry Cherrick, a professor and dean at UCLA School of dentistry who pioneered government programs promoting dental care in HIV/AIDs patients. He was an avid collector of fine art and antiquities and died at the age of 84 in 2023. Original documents included.
