Description
Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Spittoon, attributed to the Singer Pottery, Haycock Township, Bucks County, PA, second half 19th century, cylindrical form with footed base, raised molding at midsection, and oval opening at shoulder. Surface coated in manganese and decorated with an unusual spot-and-slash design in yellow and copper slip with overlying heavy lead glaze. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, discovered by a Singer family descendant in the 1950s in one of several boxes stored away in the eaves of the Singer Pottery warehouse. Heavy wear to rim. Two chips to opening at shoulder. Wear to underside at edge. H 4 3/8" ; Diameter 8 1/8".
