The map names New England as "Almouchi Cosen" as well as Nova Anglia, while present-day New York State is named variously as New Jork, Nieuw Nederland and Novum Belgium (New York, New Netherlands and New Belgium). Long Island is also named by its original name of "Jorck Shire". The Shire of York (Yorkshire), was the first large governmental unit organized in the English Province of New York soon after English control of the area was established in 1664. Many settlements are named on the map including Boklan (Brooklyn) and Philadelphia. Areas inhabited by Native American Indian tribes are named on the map
