Description
This vintage map, created by R. Bonne and Raynal between 1775 and 1780, depicts the New England states, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia, during the early post-Declaration of Independence era. The map also encompasses Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, and the Ohio River, which form the western boundaries of the depicted region. Notably, parts of Maine are labeled as "Machasuzet Bay". Originating from "Histoire Philosophique et Politique des Etablissemens" a significant work from the Age of Enlightenment with contributions from Diderot, this map offers insights into the political and geographical landscape of the time. Due to its controversial content, the publication faced a ban in France and was consequently published in Geneva, Switzerland. Crafted using copperplate engraving, this map is in overall very good condition, with authenticity guaranteed. It measures 14 1/2" x 9 1/2".
