Condition
Queen: In overall good condition. Painting has been relined. Scattered abrasions, surface scratches
and losses along edges, exposing remnants of original trimmed canvas in areas. Buckling of canvas at
upper right corner. Slight 1/8" tear in crown and small tear below proper left hand. Evidence of past
restoration: scattered inpainting by wrist, two old repaired patches approx. 7" in length at lower right,
scattered other areas. Face remains mostly untouched. Dulling and darkening of varnish layer. Layer of
surface soiling.
King: In overall good "as is" estate condition. Painting has been relined. Scattered areas of abrading,
scratching to paint surface and losses along edges, exposing remnants of original trimmed canvas in areas.
Loss at upper right with subsequent buckling of canvas. Some slight buckling to canvas at upper left. An
old 2" x 1" L-shaped tear lower third near edge in background. Evidence of past restoration: scattered
inpainting throughout, mostly in background and along edges. Several old repairs including a hole at lower
left. Dulling and darkening of varnish layer. Layer of surface soiling.
All consistent with age and material.
