This is copy number 603 of The Limited Editions Club 1987 publication of the Harriet de Onis translation into English of Alejo Carpentier's historical novel, "The Kingdom of This World, limited to 750 copies, with an introduction by John Hersey, and with etchings by Roberto Juarez. Hersey and Juarez have each signed this book on the limitation page. This is in its original slipcase, which is in fine condition. The only flaw to the book itself is a bumped outside bottom cover corner, and creases to the same positions of most pages (see photos). There are no other creases. The cover (app. 11.25" x15.25"), black morocco leather to the spine and outside corners, burgundy red cloth to the boards, in clean and unfaded, with no stains or tears, and no color fade. The spine, on which the gilt lettering is in fine condition, is straight and securely connected. The inside is clean throughout the book, with the many illustrations, all with their tissue guards in place, and with all text, as new. There are no page tears. There are no stamps or other attachments. The only writing is the limitation number and the two signatures mentioned above. The binding is tight, with no loose or missing pages. This has The Limited Editions Club Letter, a 4-panel printed addition laid-in loosely at the front inside cover spread.
