Description
A first edition of Robert F. Kennedy (1925-1968), "To Seek A Newer World" (Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1967), signed and inscribed by him on the half title page as: "For William / Best Wishes / Bob Kennedy." Stated "First Edition" on the copyright page. Hardcover, with dark blue boards and gilt-lettering on the spine. With a remarkably well-preserved original dust jacket showing the price "T.S.A.N.W. $4.95" on the left flap, unclipped. A crisp, clean copy. The book headband is ever so slightly rubbed, and there are a few tiny chips corresponding to the dust jacket, mentioned just for accuracy. Else near fine, being protected by Mylar. 5.625" x 8.5" x 1." 8vo. 233pp. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued from Modern First Editions on June 26, 2003.
Robert F. Kennedy, then an aspiring Democratic Party presidential candidate, was fatally shot on June 5, 1968, just one year after publishing "To Seek A New World,". The younger brother of President John F. Kennedy and the former U.S. Attorney General died of his injuries the next day, on June 6, 1968.
Similar Robert F. Kennedy signed and dedicated first editions of this title listed on Biblio.com range from $695 on the low end, to $2,500 on the high end. The near pristine condition of this copy would certainly justify the higher price point.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
