Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $250**

Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan/Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A hand-built, near-miniature terracotta bull figure with a rounded head, large horn bases, a pointed and snout-like nose, four pointed feet, and a dark yoke/collar. The hump on the bull's back symbolized power, strength, virility, and a leader of the herd. It is thought most bulls in Harappan society were ceremonially 'killed' before entering the ground. Bulls were a significant symbolic animal in this civilization's iconography, and were revered for their great spiritual purpose. Size: 4.3" L x 1.875" W x 2.75" H (10.9 cm x 4.8 cm x 7 cm).

Provenance: private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection
