Ancient Greece, Athens, Attic, ca. 5th century BCE. A finely-executed terracotta blackware skyphos with a wide and deep body, standing upon a raised ring base, with twin applied loop handles on either side of the cup. The monochromatic finish serves to accentuate the contours of this superb form. A painted black bullseye comprised of a circle surrounding a dot is visible on the underside of the vessel, which is a characteristic feature of Attic pottery. Size: 6.375" L x 4.45" W x 1.75" H (16.2 cm x 11.3 cm x 4.4 cm).

Extensive restoration to both handles, surface wear commensurate with age and use, minor losses to handles and base, and minor paint loss. The letters "TXIIA" written on bottom using modern writing instrument.
