Description
**Originally Listed At $275**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 100 BCE. A flat pottery figure of a woman wearing large earrings and necklace, a skirt, and a huge rectangular headdress with tassels that hang onto the forehead. The necklace has wonderful red pigment and incised detail. In the early 20th century, these figures were called "pretty ladies" but their true meaning - aside from the knowledge that they are placed in graves - is known not. A fine example of the signature artwork of the Michoacan people! Size: 2.05" W x 5.25" H (5.2 cm x 13.3 cm); 5.9" H (15 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, USA collection
