Zachary Taylor (1784-1850), February 4, 1850, signed letter, as president, to Epenetus Wheeler, New York City, thanking him for the gift of a box containing a proclamation by General Benedict Arnold after his treason and apologizing for the lack of acknowledgement because the box was misplaced, framed with an engraved portrait of Zachary Taylor by D. Appleton Co.. Letter 10" Ht., 8" W., engraved sheet 10" Ht., 6 1/4" W., overall frame 16" Ht., 18 3/4" W.. Light mat burn to letter, light foxing and toning to engraving, with tears along left side from binding. Provenance: Lansdell K. Christie Estate, Muttontown.
