Andrew Johnson (1808-1875), September 7, 1868, signed letter, as president, to Secretary of War, on lined stationary with printed heading "Executive Mansion, Washington D.C. 1868", requesting copies of correspondence from General Grant to General Halleck in 1864, from General Grant to the Secretary of War for the removal of General Butler, and the field return of the army of the Potomac & 9th Army Corps for April and May 1864, framed with engraved portrait of Andrew Johnson by Alonzo Chappel. Letter 10" Ht., 7 3/4" W., image 7 1/2" x 5 1/2" W., overall frame 15 1/2" Ht., 30 1/4" W.. Toning and foxing to engraving. Provenance: Lansdell K. Christie Estate, Muttontown.
