Description
Africa, Nigeria, Ibibio (Anang), ca. mid 20th century CE. A well executed face mask, finely carved and painted, depicting a generally naturalistic visage with eye slits for the wearer and a peaceful expression, with a standing female figure atop her head holding a pair of serpent staffs, one in each hand. Her olive green dress complements the golden yellow pigment of the face.
