This lot features an original oil on board pastoral landscape by Alfred Elias (English 1881 - 1911). Alfred Elias was a painter primarily known for his oil and pastel landscapes with cattle, sheep, dogs, for equestrian scenes, and for genre paintings. Elias was born in Hayes, parish of Kent, which is in the London Borough of Bromley, London, England. He studied at Hatherley's Academy in London, and later went on to Paris where he continued his work under the guidance of the celebrated portrait painter and teacher Léon Bonnat and in the studio of E. Lumnian. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salons for many years and won a medal at the International Exhibition held in the French Capital in 1889. This piece shows a sleepy countryside landscape titled on back, "Evening en Normandie". Excellent - Very Good Condition. Painted on walnut cabinet panel. Comes in period frame with name plate.
