FRANK HENDRY (AMERICAN, 1863-1939) HISTORICAL MARINE PAINTING, watercolor and gouache on paper, a Civil War scene, en grisaille, depicting the Union schooner "James L. Davis" and two other vessels, signed lower right. Matted and housed under glass in a modern frame. Late 19th/early 20th century. 11 1/4" x 15 1/4" sight, 16 5/8" x 20 1/4" OA.
Good overall visual condition with minor toning, abrasions, and discoloration. Not examined out of frame.
Catalogue Note: Mostly recognized for his New England scenes in the impressionist manner, artist Frank Hendry was also an active illustrator in the late 19th/early 20th century. The present lot, possibly just such an illustration, depicts the "James L. Davis", a United States Naval vessel involved in the blockade of Florida during the Civil War.
