Description
Original World War I poster, 28 x 19 in., featuring a color image depicting American Marines on the battlefield, planes flying overhead with Old Glory, and a regimental flag for an unidentified company from Maine being held high in the background. A badge at the top left corner identifies several battles the Marines participated in, including Cantony, Chateau Thierry, St. Mihiel, Argonne, and Marne. At the bottom right corner of the image is the printed signature of the artist ‘Dan Smith’. The bottom white band bears a quote from Assistant to the Secretary of War Arthur Woods, reading ‘Put Fighting Blood in Your Business – Here’s His Record! Does He Get A Job?’ The poster also reads ‘List your employment needs with the U.S. employment service’ and set between two images of the Red Cross ‘American Red Cross co-operating with the Department of War the Department of Labor’. Printing information for the ‘Thomsen-Ellis Company’ of Baltimore, Maryland appears at the bottom right. Chipping to the edges, lightly soiled. A very good example of the U.S. government attempting to deal with post-war adjustment and employment for soldiers.
