Description
Large oval hand-colored photograph of an American 'doughboy' of the 332nd Infantry Regiment in the U.S. Third Army. 17 x 23 in. overall, and pictures American soldier Frank J. Schubert from Salineville OH, of Co. 'C', 332nd Inf. Reg., who served in Italy from 1918-1919, shown seated in uniform, in a half-length pose. Especially interesting is the showing of three shoulder patches on his uniform. For US 'doughboys' of the Great War, multiple patches reflect not only their current unit but also that of a unit’s higher headquarters. The three shoulder patches shown here are reflecting membership in the 332nd Infantry Regiment, with the additional patch of the 83rd Division, and divisional patch showing its nominal assignment to the US Third Army. Also shown are two overseas service stripes on the lower sleeve, a red discharge stripe mid-sleeve, and a chest ribbon for the Italian War Service medal. In original period wood frame with name tag taped on the back, indicating that the actual photo is named on the reverse. Very good.
