Hand colored. Copperplate engraving. Showing the expanding territory of the recently independent United States. Florida is still Spanish. Cook's discovers are seen and Alaska is taking shape.
Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688–1766) was one of the leading cartographers in France during the 18th century, along with his son Didier Robert de Vaugondy. Together, they published one of the most important atlases of the 18th century, "The Atlas Universel".
