Description

Paul Baudry (French, 1828-1886). A pairing of two chalk on paper studies for the muses in the Grand foyer of the Paris Opera. The first titled "Clio", signed and inscribed at lower right center (20-7/8 in x 10-5/8 in). The second titled "Thalia" and inscribed lower center (19-11/16 in x 12-7/8 in). Shepherd Gallery tags on back of each. For reference see "The Second Empire; Art in France under Naopleon III", Philadelphia Museum of Art, 1978, pp 364-365. In matching frames under glass. Provenance: From a Philadelphia, PA Estate collection.

Condition

Some wear and chipping to margins of study paper. Works themselves are in good condition. Not examined out of frames.
