**First Time At Auction**
Western Europe, ca. 1914 to 1918 CE. A heavy brass mortar shell casing, hollow, from World War I. The construction looks similar to the base-fuzed common shells used by a field gun. Artillery shells were designed to be recycled, and spent shells were returned to munitions factories and re-filled. After the war, people who had experienced it often found themselves keeping these items as a form of memory or souvenir of the life-changing event in which they had participated. Size: 3" W x 7.9" H (7.6 cm x 20.1 cm)
