**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Western Bolivia, Chiribaya or Tihuanaco (Tiwanaku), ca. 900 to 1200 CE. An attractive hand built pottery vessel of an unusual form comprised of a rounded lower section that rises to a large conical upper section with a cinched in rim, all upon a circular flat foot with an attached tubular handle. The piece is adorned with polychrome slip-painted abstract geometric patterns in hues of red, cream, and black that nearly cover the entire surface. We attribute this piece to either the Chiribaya or Tihuanaco (also called Tiwanaku) culture. Artisans of both Andean cultures excelled in highly decorated pottery that is among the greatest achievements in Pre-Columbian art. Size: 8.25" W at widest point x 7.625" H (21 cm x 19.4 cm)
