South America, Upper/Western Amazon Basin, Ucayali River, Peru, Shipibo peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A fine hand-built pottery vessel with a petite flat base, wide walls with a rounded midsection, a slanted shoulder, and a cavernous basin. The highly-burnished exterior is adorned with intricate curvilinear motifs in black and red pigment atop a pale yellow-white ground, and the interior boasts a solid orange hue. Size: 12.7" W x 5.625" H (32.3 cm x 14.3 cm).
