Pre-Columbian, North / Central Peru, Inca culture, ca. 1100 to 1400 CE. This vibrantly-colored textile fragment is comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca) fibers in gold, crimson, and black hues. The composition includes several polychromatic zoomorphic figures whose orientation alternates between being right-side-up and upside-down, all in a characteristically abstract Incan style. Mounted on a fabric-lined cardboard backing. Size: 18.75" L x 0.9" W (47.6 cm x 2.3 cm).

Provenance: private Slavin collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia from 1971 to 1972
