    Inoue Sekison, born in Miki (Hyogo Prefecture) was one of the last Students Tajika Chikuson (1864-1923) from 1912 until 1917. In 1930 he was invited to participate in the annual exhibition of the Japan Nanga Institute (Nihon Nanga-in), founded in Kyoto in 1921 by a young literati painters' study group that included Mizuta Chikuho (1883-1958) and Kono Shuson (1890-1987) and Mitsui Hanzan (1880-1934). Their advisers were Tomioka Tessai (1836-1924), Nagao Uzan (1864-1942) and Naito Konan (1866-1934). In 1934 he became a formal member of the Japan Nanga Institute. The exhibitions were held until 1936, when the Institute was dissolved. It was re-established in 1960 under the direction of Matsubayashi Keigetsu (1876-1963). In 1974, one year prior to his death Sekison was commissioned a ceiling painting of a dragon at Ryogen-ji (one of the sub-temples of Daitoku-ji temple). Inoue Sekison died in March 25th, 1975. - He is considered the last Nanga painter of the old tradition. Title inscription: Deep forest, rainy road (????); signed and sealed by the artist.
