Description
Ochi Shokan studied Japanese painting (Nihon-ga) at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 1902. Serving in the armed forces during the Russo-Japanese War, Shokan was injured and returned to his family to recuperate. Then he returned to Tokyo. In 1930 Shokan traveled to Europe together with Yokoyama Taikan (1868-1958) and other cele-brated artists as part of a Japanese art mission to the Rome Japanese Art Exhibition (Roma Nihon Bijutsuten). Shokan passed away in Tokyo on August 8, 1958.
