“Operation Vengence”. Operation Vengeance was the American operation to kill Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the planner of the Pearl Harbor attack, on April 18, 1943, during the Solomon Islands campaign in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Yamamoto was killed on Bougainville Island when his transport bomber aircraft was shot down by United States Army Air Forces fighter aircraft. 10” x 8” black and white photograph of 15 of the 16 pilots who participated in the mission, signed by nine of the pilots. Signing are: John W. Mitchell, Rex Barber, Besby Holmes, Roger Ames, Douglas Canning, Delton Goerke, Lawrence Graebner, Louis Kittel and Julius “Jack” Jacobson. The photograph is framed to 11 ½” x 10” and the lot includes a copy of the certificate of authenticity from Jacobson.
