Description
An 8” x 10” black and white glossy photograph of three "Enola Gay" crew members, boldly signed by them: "Enola Gay" Pilot and Commander Paul Tibbets (1915-2007) as "Paul W. Tibbets" at center; Navigator Theodore Van Kirk (1921-2014) as “Theodore J. Van Kirk” at left; and Bombardier Tom Ferebee (1918-2000) as “Thomas W. Ferebee” at right. The photo corners are slightly blunted, else in near fine condition.
On August 6, 1945, the crew of the B-29 Superfortress Bomber "Enola Gay" dropped an atomic bomb nicknamed "Little Boy" over the southwestern Japanese metropolis of Hiroshima. Colonel Paul W. Tibbets commanded the 12-man crew. The nuclear bomb wiped out 70 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people; tens of thousands more would later die of radiation exposure.
