Haunting mounted photograph of a WW1 Pilot from Texas. The mount is inscribed twice in period ink. An earlier inscription reads, “To my old pal with best wishes, Lt. Raifand (?), 7/17/18.” This hand has also added a note that simply reads, “Lt. Doris (?).” A second later inscription, done in another hand, reads: ”Killed 1/19/19.” We cannot find a reference to this pilot but it may be that the his name is misspelled in official records. A very somber piece, regardless.
