GORDON HOPE GRANT (AMERICAN, 1875-1962) "CONCARNEAU" MARINE PRINT, etching on paper, depicting fisherman offloading their catch at the wharf, boats and harbor in the background, issued by the Society of American Etchers, pencil-signed in margin lower right, retains accompanying printed commentary by John Taylor Arms (1887-1953) and a merchant sticker for Swain's Art Store in Plainfield, NJ, attached verso. Matted and housed under glass in likely original black-painted frame. Circa 1944. 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" plate, 14 5/8" x 19 5/8" OA.
Print in excellent visual condition. Frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
Provenance: Property of a Virginia Family.
Catalogue Note: Born in San Francisco, Gordon Hope Grant (1875-1962) studied at the Lambeth & Heatherley Art School in London, moved to New York City as a young man, and began exhibiting his work regularly. A prolific artist known for his marine work, Grant worked for Harper's at the end of the 19th century and produced illustrations for a number of publications over his career.
