Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 500 to 950 CE. An amazing Mayan "eccentric" flint of soft grey hues presenting several images including two human faces in profile wearing angular headdresses. The 'headdresses' also resemble birds. Painstakingly knapped from flint and made as offerings, examples like this are often found in cenotes throughout the Mayan lands. What makes this one stand apart is the remarkable skill displayed in the carving, the wondrous iconography, and the translucent peripheries. Size: 2" W x 4" H (5.1 cm x 10.2 cm)
