Description
Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca region, Quimbaya culture, Middle Cauca complex, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A hand built terracotta abstract anthropomorphic figure, with a wide, trapezoidal head and a large, square torso, this form resonating for any lover of geometry. The piece stands independently on tubular legs with flat soles. The figure is a male - note the petite penis delineated between his legs -and his facial features are classically Quimbaya - coffee bean shaped eyes and mouth and a pronounced long nose. Providing further detail to the countenance is a series of perforations below the lips, incised fingers and toes, and a belly button. A wonderful example from this ancient Colombian culture. Size: 6.375" W x 9" H (16.2 cm x 22.9 cm)
