This is a lovely antique sterling silver butter pat dish by Whiting Division. There is a wonderful, unique paisley like design and outstanding craftsmanship. The center of the bowl looks like it was gold washed. This piece dates early 20th century as their pictorial trademark was only used up until 1924, when it was purchased by Gorham. The dish measures approximately 3-1/8" in diameter. Weight is 22.1 grams or approximately 3/4 ozt. There is no monogram. The back is marked with the Whiting Division trademark STERLING 2392. This is in beautiful condition and the detail is gorgeous. Hand polished, but being an older item, there is still be some patina, discoloration, toning, or light scratches due to age. There are some small dark spots you can see in the images.

Whiting Silver was founded in 1866 by William Dean Whiting, who had earned a reputation as a master maker of sterling silver. During the late 19th century, the firm was one of the premier manufacturers of sterling silver flatware, hollowware, and other decorative objects such as snuff boxes.
