Description
A rare and important Chinese Qing dynasty period Imperial enameled purple bowl in original box. Delicately potted in a deep vessel with round cavetto rising slightly curved sides toward flaring rim, supported on a footed base. Exterior and interior are vividly hand painted in enamel design, falangcai, famille rose on a colored ground decoration, of four seasons flowers including peonies, chrysanthemums, lotus, plum, all reserved against purple color background. The drawing was superb contrasting the purple background. The original wooden box having square shape covered in metallic ebony silk adorned by auspicious archaistic medallion threads, with sliding panel lids. Imperial yellow silk with Shou medallions motif wrapped the hard cushion fit perfectly to the bowl. The improved enamel glazes of the early Qing dynasty being fired at a higher temperature also acquired a more brilliant look as shown on these pair.
