Description
A Roman terracotta lamp with busts of Isis and Serapis, 2nd Century AD, the central discus bordered by a ridge, ovolo pattern on the shoulder, the nozzle short and rounded with pinched handle at back. On bottom flattened base with double-incised circle. 4 3/4 in x 3 1/2 in (12 x 8.9 cm). A nice example with good detail and light deposits. Isis and Serapis were two of the most widespread and popular deities during the 1st and 2nd Century in the Roman empire. Ex-Cecil Martin Orlando Florida Collection; Ex-Bonham's sale in 1990's.
