Description
STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFER-PRINTED HUDSON RIVER NEW YORK CERAMIC ARTICLES, LOT OF THREE, all with brown/sepia prints, having designs from the "Picturesque Views" series of the Hudson River, including "Troy from Mount Ida" and "Hudson" as marked on bases. Two impressed "CLEWS WARRANTED STAFFORDSHIRE". Ralph and James Clews, Staffordshire, England. Second quarter 19th century. Sauceboat 4 5/8" H, platter 12" x 10 1/4".
Platter with hairline and area of restoration on rim, otherwise undamaged with some staining. Manufacturing clay separations on interior of base of the sauceboat that do not go through to the underside.
Literature: Transferware Collectors Club database patterns #2340 and #1691.
Provenance: Collection of Jim Lawrence and Denver Smallwood, Chattanooga, TN.
