Description
French, early 19th century. A fine pair of Sevres or Old Paris style porcelain handled vases, each urn-form with hand-painted polychrome enameling representing death scenes; General Joubert at the Battle of Novi in 1799 and General Desaix at Marengo in 1800, the opposite side painted with rural landscapes and rustic architecture, the bodies mounted to each side with scrolled handles, all over decoration of burnished gilt. Apparently no artist signatures or marks. Approximate height 9.75", width 5.75" (handle to handle), base 3" x 3".
