Map Dimension: 13.4 x 17.4 in.

This superb map is one of the earliest Western rendering of Japan, based on the Ortelius/Teixeira model with the three principal Japanese Islands (Honshu, Kyushu, and Shikoku) depicted with errors but are in relatively correct proportions. Corea (Korea) is shown as an island, although the added notation is that it is uncertain if Korea was an island or a peninsula. The map is richly ornamented with two strapwork cartouches, one European (Dutch galleon) and one Japanese junk style ship, and a sea monster. Nicely hand colored.
