Description
Philadelphia School. Silk on Linen. Needlework Pictorial Sampler worked by "Jane Campbell Her work done in the 13 year of age 1802". Having a repeating, trailing floral border, a poem upper right reads "Love the Lord and He will be Faithful Father unto the". The central panel reads "The Life of a Father is much the loss - of a Mother would be more more - but the loss of Christ is such a loss that no one could restore". This sampler depicts a fine multi-story Georgian house with two chimneys, and a checkered foundation, two flanking male and female figures along with dogs and flowering fruit trees. The center foreground depicting bride and bridegroom with plumed hat holding a wreath along with two well dressed children/Attendants. The girl holding a cornucopia basket, the boy holding flowers, also two dogs and a rabbit in the foreground. Other elements include two green and blue birds, strawberries and polychrome towering vases with flowers.
