After the Civil War, he returned to Fort Wayne prior to moving to Kansas City, Mo. He died in 1907. These two pencil drawings show columns with bases and capitols as you would expect from an architect. The image size is 12 1/2" wide by 17" tall, framed dimensions are 17 1/4" wide by 21 1/4" tall. The drawings show how the columns fit into capitols and bases. One of the drawings is clearly signed lower right A. Sutermeister 1848 and the other may be under the mat but has not been removed. Both drawings bear old Hatrtiesburg, Mississippi framing labels.
