Description
A Roman marble architectural fragment with a floral motif said to be from the Cloaca Maxima, c. 3rd - 5th Century AD, found in 1932. Perhaps an architectural element from a nearby structure that ended up within the Cloaca Maxima, which literally mean the 'Greatest Sewer' which carried effluence from the city of Rome to the River Tiber. Two rows of pellets bordered by partial floral elements are visible with light deposits, notation of find spot and date on one flat side. W: 10 1/4 in (26cm), H: 4 4/5 in (12.2cm). With custom metal stand. Ex Southern California private collection.
