Four books detailing the personal experiences of US soldiers, citizens and movie stars of the time as well as the experiences of the Polish people of Warsaw in 1939 and Nazi POWs in America. Included are the following:
1 - Siege, 64pp + approximately 50pp of full page B&W photos, Julien Bryan, Doubleday Doran & Company, 1940. Vividly documenting the beginning of World War II, this collection of photographs illustrates Warsaw's September 1939 capture by German troops. The victims of the event's military deployment are portrayed in an array of shattering images that chronicle the two weeks preceding the historic siege of the Polish capital. This compilation shows the striking perspective of Warsaw's residents. It includes photographs by the photographer in black-and-white. Accompanied by the author's own descriptions, these recollections depict a powerful period in European history.
2 - Nazi Prisioners of War In America, 338pp, Arnold Krammer, Stein and Day, 1979. The full story of how the US held nearly 500,000 Nazi POWs in camps across the United States. Illustrated with more than 70 rare photographs.
3 - Movie Lot to Beachhead - The Motion Picture Goes to War and Prepares for the Future, 291pp, The Editors of LOOK, Preface by Robert St. John, Doubleday Doran and Company Inc, 1945. An interesting look at how Hollywood's actors, entertainers, producers, and stage hands mobilized to entertain troops, participate in and document World War II. NUMEROUS photos and captions of those involved.
4 - Time Out - American Airmen at Stalag Luft I, 192pp, John A. Vietor, Richard R. Smith Publisher Inc., 1951. An interesting account of Allied Officer John A. Vietor's time at Stalag Luft I.
