Description
An early twentieth century silver sovereign holder case, the plain circular hinged form with suspension loop and push button mechanism, missing its interior sovereign holders, hallmarked W H Haseler Ltd., Birmingham 1913, further marked PAT APPP FOR. Together with a silver cigarette case, of slightly curved oblong form, the scroll engraved decoration surrounding a corner initialled cartouche with fan engraved canted sides, opening to reveal a silver-gilt interior, hallmarked John Henry Wynn, Birmingham 1929. Gross weight 2.9 ozt (91.4 grams). (2).
Condition
In fair to good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The sovereign holder is missing its inner sovereign holders, requires attention, the case shuts fully flush, heavier tarnishing to the hinge and lock with some rusty residue to the interior, the pin sticks out slightly holding the suspension loop. The cigarette case has a minor dent to the top beneath the cartouche which is engraved with the initials CR, some minor loss of definition to the decoration and around edges, case shuts fully flush. Hallmarks slightly rubbed but still legible.
