Description
A selection of novelty items to include a 1920's plain silver cigarette case with dual compartments including a vacant aperture, hallmarked Henry Matthews, Birmingham 1921, width measure 3 2/8 inches (8.5 cm). Together with a small silver pin tray of triangular form with scroll lipped borders, hallmarked Albert Edward Jones, Birmingham 1970, a late Victorian silver pin tray of square form with engraved crest and crimped rim edges, London 1893, a small silver box with embossed scene of George and the Dragon, London import 1978, further stamped 925 and a modern silver card case. Gross weight 7.37 ozt (229.3 grams).
Condition
In fair to good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The cigarette case has remnants of polish visible, vacant aperture and tarnishing and scratches to the silver-gilt interior, the case shuts fully flush but slightly loose. The Victorian pin tray has an engraved crest with the motto 'NE CEDE MALIS' beneath, three of its corners have become slightly bent. The embossed scene on the small box has been double struck appearing blurred, marked with London import for 1978 alongside 925, opens to reveal a bright silver-gilt interior. The card case has a vacant cartouche and some minor tarnishing to the engine-turned decoration. Some hallmarks slightly rubbed but the majority are clear and legible.
