Description
LENOX CHINA BUTTERFLY SERVING ARTICLES, LOT OF FOUR, including one double dish in the "Butterfly Collection" pattern, and two narrow, leaf-shaped dishes. Two pieces marked with gilt "L" within a wreath, "LENOX", and "MADE IN U.S.A." Winslow Anderson designed for Lenox Ceramic Art Company, Trenton, New Jersey. Third quarter 20th century. Butterfly Collection dish 13 3/4" x 9".
Excellent undamaged condition.
Provenance: Winslow Anderson estate sold to benefit the Huntington Museum of Art.
Exhibited: Four examples, Huntington Museum of Art, 8/22/99-1/9/2000.
Catalogue Note: Winslow Anderson worked as a design director at Lenox China from 1953-1980. Exhibition records note the ashtray as being "copied by others more than any other piece" and the gingko-shaped design as being inspired by a "picked up leaf".
