Matted and housed under glass in an old painted frame. Circa 1952. 11 3/4" x 17 3/8" plate, 21 1/4" x 26" OA.

Catalogue Note: Born in Rostock, Germany, Robert Von Neuman (1888-1976) studied under Bruno Paul and Emil Orlik at the United State Schools for Free and Applied Arts and at the Royal Academy in Berlin. His young career interrupted by World War I, Neumann served for four years in the German Army, and resumed his teaching career in Berlin after the cessation of hostilities. He immigrated to the United States in 1926 and took up residence in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he would remain throughout his long career working as an artist and teacher. The present work, exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1952, demonstrates the artist's fine skills as a printmaker.
