Description
Lengthy letter with Torah thoughts written and signed by Rabbi Yekutiel Yehuda Rosenberger. Two halachic responsa.
The gaon was asked a question regarding the days when no eulogies are said - such as the month of Nissan, erev Shabbat and erev Yom Tov: Is it permitted to praise the deceased as one would his friend. He writes a lengthy response from the Talmud and poskim to prove that eulogies are meant to increase the pain and bitterness amongst the living so that they repent, and one doesn't fulfill the obligation to say a eulogy by telling stories about the deceased. Eulogies are prohibited on some days in order to prevent this increase of biternesses amongst those who listen, due to the virtue of those days. He brings proofs to his opinion from many leading "achronim," the authors of Teshuva Mi'Ahava, Magen Avraham, Shulchan Aruch and a number of other sources. Additionally includes a response regarding the prohibition of wearing shoes on the 9th of Av, for those travelling out of the city.
Rabbi Yekuteil Yehuda Rosenberger [1885-1944] was a dayan and rabbi in דעירעש [Marmarush, Hungary] from 1907. He authored Torat Yekutiel. He held halachic correspondence with his teachers and leaders of the generation - authors of the Arugat HaBosem, Atzei Chaim and Divrei Yoel (Satmar). He was killed in the Holocaust.
