Description
1863 Johnson’s California Territories of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and Utah. Johnson and Ward, 17 x 24.5 inches. Late 1863 transitional map with New Mexico and Arizona divided vertically, although the long horizontal counties still show Santa Fe including the future tip of Nevada. Denver City is above “Gold Region” and a second Colorado Gold Region exists along the Colorado River near Yumas Indians. Above that is a note that reads “In the vicinity of this place a tract…is said by trappers to be exceedingly fertile and abundantly timbered and well watered.” Superb detail of Indians, forts, proposed railroad routes, Pony Express, U.S. Mail and other routes, missions and settlements.
