Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Central Highlands, Inca, ca. 1400 to 1470 CE. A fierce eight-pointed star-shaped stone mace head, carved from rich green stone, that would have been attached to a solid shaft used to bludgeon one's opponents, or perhaps a helmet to highlight the warrior's ferocity. In addition to being a very lethal weapon designed for destruction, the star form attests to the ancients' reverence for the celestial realm. A quintessential example with strong carving technique and lovely patina. Custom stand. Size: 5.25" in diameter (13.3 cm); 5.875" H (14.9 cm) on stand.
